Description
The Shambles is a former house that was later converted into a shop, dated 1836 but with an earlier core. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring quoins, a moulded eaves cornice, a shallow parapet, and plain gables. The building has end ridge stacks, one made of ashlar and the other of brick, topped with a Welsh slated roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays. Originally, it had glazing bar sashes set in projecting stone surrounds, with the first-floor windows linked by a flat eaves band. Currently, the first-floor windows have 20th-century joinery, and there is a 19th-century shop window at the northeast end, which is subdivided by tapering timber columns with scrollwork capitals that support a bracketed fascia. A 20th-century half-glazed door is located at the center, accompanied by a rectangular overlight. A rainwater head at the southwest end is dated 1836.
