Description

The Old School, dated 1875, is a former school and schoolmaster's house that may have been designed by R H Carpenter. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressing and features a Westmorland slate roof.

The building consists of a single-storey bay to the left, which is attached to a gabled two-storey bay on the right that serves as the house. The school section is set back and is a single-storey structure with five bays, two of which are gabled.

The house has a part-glazed door in the left bay and three-light mullion-and-transom windows in the right bay, complete with bargeboards on the gable and oversailing eaves. There is an eaves stack to the right, and the left return is hung with Welsh slates.

In the school section, from the left, there is a four-panel door beneath a two-pane overlight located in an open porch supported by a Tuscan colonnette at the angle. The school features three-, four-, and three-light mullion windows, as well as two cross windows with a dated quatrefoil above. It also has bargeboards on the gable and oversailing eaves. The roof slope contains three wooden vents, and there is a stack on the apex of the right gable, along with a lateral rear central stack.
