Description

This is a cottage with an attached range, originally a forge, located in Twyford. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, but was refaced in the 18th century. The structure is timber-framed, largely hidden behind brickwork, and has been extended, topped by an old plain tile roof. Two bays of the original 1½-storey timber frame remain, although the right bay has been replaced by a two-bay, single-storey forge. Each bay features a 19th-century tripartite sash window with a segmental head, with the exception of a 20th-century window on the right. A 19th-century four-panel door, also with a segmental head, sits between the centre bays. The left bays have two-light casements, with gabled dormers above. The roof is half-hipped to the left. At the right end, a gable abuts a half-hipped roof over the right bays, incorporating a two-light, gabled dormer. The front wall bears brickwork dated 1692 and stone dated 1712 on the right end. The forge interior survives within the building.
