Description
The Phoenix Inn is a public house with a core dating back to the 17th century, which was refronted in the 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The building features a timber-frame core that has been refronted in brick and rendered with incised masonry lines, topped with a slate roof. It is two stories high and consists of four bays, with a wing at the rear in the center.
The front includes 19th-century top-lit double doors set in a moulded frame, which are sheltered by a moulded flat hood positioned between the right bays. Each side of these doors features a 19th-century flat-roofed canted bay. In the center left bay, there is a four-panel top-lit door with a rectangular fanlight and a moulded flat hood above it. To the right of this door, in the left bay, is a 12-pane sash window. The first floor is raised to a parapet, which is pierced by four three-light gabled dormers. The roof is half-hipped to the right, featuring a 19th-century stack on the gable and above the right door, along with an 18th-century stack at the left end. The building has undergone significant alterations, which is why it is included for its group value.
