Description

The barn at Buckmore Farm, located to the northwest of the farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure dated "AW 1769," though it has earlier origins and has undergone later alterations. It features a timber frame with orange-red brick walling arranged in Flemish garden wall bond, topped with a plain tile roof, which has replacement tiles on the yard side. This aisled barn has four and a half bays and includes opposed cart entries.

On the yard elevation, there is a rubblestone plinth except for the right bay, where the cart entry is infilled with late 20th-century board doors and a board hatch door to the right. A hipped three-light dormer rises from the eaves on the left, with the roof hipped on the left and half-hipped on the right. The rear features a 19th-century hipped midstray and slit vents. The right return has slit vents, some of which are blocked, and a dated brick at the center, along with a timber-framed gable with brick infill. The left return has a stone plinth.

Inside, the barn boasts large scantling timbers, including jowelled wall posts with reverse-curved braces leading up to tie-beams, and straight braces to the arcade plates. A post on the right side of the front cart entry bears graffiti, including 'AW' (matching the dated brick) and "H. Powell 1817." There is one replacement truss with nailed kneeler braces, wall ties, and queen strut roof trusses with clasped purlins. The left end features queen posts, old rafters without a ridge piece, and wind braces. The rear wall is supported by brick buttresses.
