Description
The Catholic Church of Saint Laurence, built between 1890 and 1891 by architect Kelly, is a cruciform church constructed of red brick in the Italian style. It features a copper dome over an octagonal drum, with each face of the drum defined by an order and containing a round-arched window. Above this is a copper cupola with a small octagonal drum. The church has a four-bay, two-storey nave, with an order applied to each storey. The round-arched windows on the first floor have a springing band, and the taller window at the west end has a cornice that rises in an arch above it. There are one-bay transepts with large, round blank arches at the ends. The chancel consists of one pedimented bay with a lower apse to the east, and all ends of the church are pedimented. Inside, the nave features a segmental vault.
