Description
11 and 12 The Square is a mid-18th century building that stands three storeys tall and features eight windows. It has a hipped, tiled roof with a moderate pitch and a moulded eaves cornice with modillions. There is one chimney located on the right side of the building. The structure is constructed of red brick, which has a decorative pattern of blue headers. Red brick dressings include a moulded string course at the second floor cills and gauged, flat brick arches above the windows. Five of the second floor windows on the left side are blocked. The first floor has a modern three-light casement window in the two left bays, while a late 19th-century square bay window occupies the two right bays. The remaining windows are sashes set in wide, flush moulded frames. The ground floor features modern shop fronts, and the building is currently being rebuilt behind its facade. Nos 9, 11, 12, and 13 form a cohesive group.
