Description

The statue of William III is a Grade I listed equestrian lead statue located in the center of The Square. It dates from the 18th century and depicts William of Orange dressed in the costume of a Roman Senator. The statue is mounted on a well-designed stone pedestal and features a Latin inscription. It was restored in 1912 through public subscription, with advice from Professor Robert Colton of the Royal Academy. The restoration work was carried out by Messrs Singer and Sons Limited, founders from Frome. This statue serves as a focal point for both the Square and the town as a whole.
