Description
This barn and byre, located 100 yards northwest of Low End Farmhouse, dates back to 1676 and was restored in the mid-19th century. It is built of coursed stone and features a blue machine tile roof. The structure has an opposed entry plan with three structural bays and an upper level. There are entrances to the left of center and at the extreme right, both with Tudor-arched heads. Ventilation slits are present at the upper level and near the left of center entrance, while two 19th-century casements are located between the doors, indicating a later conversion to a byre. The central entrance is inscribed with "HS 1676," and there is an opposed door at the rear. Inside, the barn features three raised cruck trusses, positioned approximately 1 meter below the wall plate, with flat saddle-block apexes, collars, and upper ties that are bolt fixed. The lap joints are exposed and unused at the blades, and there are both curved and straight windbraces. The roof was restored in the 19th century, abandoning the original lap matrix.
