6/92 Barn 100 yards - north-west of Low End Farmhouse

Barn and byre. Dated 1676, restored mid C19. Coursed stone; blue machine tile roof. Opposed entry plan of three structural bays with an upper level. Entrances to left of centre and to extreme right both with Tudor-arched heads; vent slits to upper level and to left of centre entrance; two C19 casements between doors to serve later part-conversion to byre. Central entrance inscribed over "HS 1676"; opposed door to rear. Interior: 3 raised cruck trusses, set approxi- mately 1m below wall plate, flat saddle-block apex, collars and upper ties bolt fixed, lap joints exposed and unused to blades; curved and straight windbraces. The roof has been restored in the C19 and the original lap matrix abandoned.
