Description
The gatepiers, gates, and railings to Thornbridge Hall were constructed in the late 19th century. They are made of coursed, squared, and rubble stone with ashlar dressings and painted iron. The design features a concave segmental curve in plan, formed by two central gatepiers with gates in between, which are connected to advanced piers on either side by a low, curving rubble wall topped with elaborate railings. The gatepiers stand approximately 10 feet high and are made of coursed squared stone with ashlar moulded bases and cornices, each topped by fluted urns. Between the central gatepiers are two pairs of gates and a pair of open ironwork piers from which the wide central gates are hung, with side gates on either side. The ironwork is designed in an 18th-century style, featuring simple overthrows and scroll work on the gates, while the railings have three scrolled panels between thinner panels.
