Description
The stable block and coach house, located to the north-west of Newhaven House Hotel, dates from around 1795 and was built for the Duke of Devonshire. It is constructed from rendered limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring lead flashings and a stone-coped gable. The building consists of five bays and two storeys.
The central bay is slightly advanced and gabled, featuring a central semi-circular archway that is blocked above the impost level and divided below by a square pier. On either side of this central bay are quoined doorcases. A string course runs at the impost level. To the north and south of the central bay, there are double quoined doorcases with single windows beyond. Above these, two hayloft openings are set in flush surrounds on either side. Additionally, there is a quoined doorcase and a single light window in the blocked section of the central arch.
