Description
Smithy Farmhouse and Blacksmiths is a farmhouse and smithy built in the late 18th century and mid 19th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a slate roof. The building features stone coped gables with plain kneelers and has stone gable end and ridge stacks with simple cornices.
The structure is two storeys high with three bays and includes a single storey, two bay smithy to the east. The entrance has a doorcase with plain jambs and a lintel, leading to a plank door. On the west side, there is a large 19th-century two-light flush mullion window with glazing bar sashes. To the east, there are two 18th-century two-light flush mullion windows, some of which have glazing bar sashes and some have plain sashes. Above these, there are two similar windows. There is also a large two-light window over the 19th-century window to the west, and to the extreme east, a large two-light mullion window with vertical glazing bars and lapped glass. Additionally, there is a flush doorcase to the east, beyond which are full height double plank doors.
