Description

Ivy House is an early 19th-century farmhouse situated on Buxton Road in the Parish of Hartington Nether Quarter. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins, capped with a pyramidal, hipped slate roof featuring leaded ridges. Tall stone side wall stacks, each with plain cornices, rise from the building. A simple stone eaves cornice runs around the top of the walls. The main block is two storeys and three bays wide, with a single-storey, two-bay wing extending to the north.

The west elevation features a central ashlar porch supported by four plain pilasters, each with a tall inset panel. The porch contains a central semi-circular doorcase with a six-panelled door and a divided fanlight above, finished with a simple stepped cornice. To the west of the porch is a glazing bar sash window in a plain surround. A recessed single-storey wing to the west contains two similar windows. To the east of the porch is a fixed 16-pane window with single-pane casements. Above the porch, a similar window is present, alongside two glazing bar sashes to the west. All windows have plain surrounds. The rear elevation is similarly grand, displaying three large glazing bar sashes on each floor.
