Description
The Biggin-by-Hartington War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1921, with later additions for the Second World War. It is constructed from pink granite.
The memorial takes the form of an obelisk on a pedestal with a bevelled top, both made of polished pink granite. The pedestal rests on a dressed stone plinth of unpolished pink granite that has a chamfered edge. The base of the memorial is made from rough-hewn pink granite.
Engraved and gilded inscriptions are present on three sides of the monument. On the north-west face of the obelisk, it reads: "IN HONOUR OF THOSE WHO FELL FOR LIBERTY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918." The pedestal lists four names from the First World War. The north-east face of the obelisk has "1939-45" and lists two names, while the pedestal includes two names from the First World War. The south-west face of the obelisk also has "1939-45" with two names, and the pedestal again lists two names from the First World War.
