Description
Biggin Hall is a house that now serves as a guest house, built around 1642. It underwent alterations in the 19th century and was restored in the 1980s. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and large quoins. It features ground and first floor moulded drip bands, a slate roof with a stone ridge, and stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. A massive stone central ridge stack with moulded bands is also present. The house has two storeys plus attics and a two-bay front with a baffle entrance plan. At the rear, there is a tall projecting staircase turret.
On the southeast elevation, there is an off-centre doorcase with massive rusticated quoining and a plank door. To the north, a 4-light chamfered mullion window has segmental headed lights and a central major mullion. There are remains of a similar window to the south, which has been blocked and replaced by a glazing bar sash in a flush surround. Above the north window, there is a 6-light window similar to the one below, and a similar 4-light window to the south. All mullion windows have central iron bars and leaded lights, likely from the 20th century. To the north, there is a corner lead gutter with a hopper head dated 1743. Both the north and south elevations feature similar segmental arched 2-light windows.
Inside, there is an oak panel baffle at the entry, a fireplace lintel dated 1642, stone flagged rooms, and original stone stairs in the rear stair turret.
