Description
The Eagle and Child is a house that was formerly a public house, built in 1738 and altered since. It is constructed from painted squared rubble sandstone with flush quoins and has a roof made of Kerridge stone-slate. The building has two storeys and features two windows that extend to the right, with near-flush small-pane casements. There is a boarded door, and the structure includes stone gable chimneys and ridge chimneys. An incised sign depicting an eagle carrying a child in swaddling clothes is located above the initials JS and the date 1738. The Tithe Award Schedule from 1849 describes the building as the Eagle and Child Inn.
