Description
Allgreave Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1746, constructed from red and buff coursed gritstone rubble, which is colourwashed at the front. It features a gabled roof made of Kerridge stone-slate and has stone chimneys on the right gable and left of centre on the ridge, with a brick chimney replacing the original on the front gable. The building has an L-shaped layout with an offset projecting wing on the right. The main wing is two storeys high and has three windows. A rustic gabled timber porch, dating from the 19th century or later, includes latticework and a small-pane glazed door from the mid-20th century. The windows are C20 timber casements set in unaltered openings. Above the door, there is a datestone inscribed with "JG GG 1746."
Inside, the farmhouse was originally divided into three bays with a doorway leading into the left room; a later hall-passage now occupies the right end of that room. The interior features two chamfered oak beams and an inglenook fireplace, which has been replaced, located against the right wall of the central room. The firehood and one other oak beam, which is now cased, are said to be carved. At the inner end of the inglenook, there is a thin, plain single-stone baffle.
