Description
Hammerton Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed from yellow coursed rubble gritstone, topped with a Kerridge stone-slate roof. The building has two storeys and features three windows. Its double-pile roof includes coped gables with cyma kneelers and stone gable chimneys that have cavetto caps. The front has three-light windows with flush stone mullions that are square in section on the outside and chamfered on the inside. Above the doorway, there is a round-headed single-light window with a simply-moulded stone case supported by corbel brackets and a keystone. The modern glazed door is set in a renewed stone opening. The rear of the farmhouse has stone-mullioned windows similar to those at the front, with 20th-century wooden casements in unaltered openings.
Inside, the farmhouse features a good early 18th-century moulded stone fireplace with an overmantel on stone consoles. There is a dogleg stair with wavy splat balusters and chamfered oak beams. The doors to the main bedrooms are made of oak, featuring boarded panels, heavy stiles, and shallow top and bottom rails.
