Description
Viewley Cottage and Willow Cottage are two houses that date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from coursed sandstone with mixed tooling, which may have been reused. The buildings feature a pantiled roof with stone dressings, brick stacks, and a tiled ridge. Viewley Cottage is now covered with incised rendering. Both cottages are two storeys high with an attic and have one wide bay each.
The entrances consist of off-centre paired 5-panel doors, with Viewley Cottage having a small porch and Willow Cottage featuring a long-bracketed hood. Both cottages have late 19th-century four-pane sash windows on both floors, except for Willow Cottage, which has a 20th-century three-light casement on the ground floor, complete with extended stone lintels and cills.
The pantiled roof includes dormers with deep bracketed eaves soffits, featuring a late 19th-century sash window on the left and a Yorkshire sash on the right. The roof has a slight sweep, with coping and a prominent curved kneeler on the left side, and the end stacks have been rebuilt. The cottages are included for their group value.
