Description
The United Reformed Church, originally a Congregational Chapel, was built in 1840, as indicated by an inset oval plaque above the porch. The church features finely-tooled herringboned and margined coursed sandstone on the front, with coarser herringbone tooling on the sides and back. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone copings and block kneelers.
The gable end facing the street is two storeys high and has three wide bays on the entrance front. There are three steps leading up to a two-centred arched double door located in a central gabled porch, which has small slits on the porch returns and a trefoil finial above the stone gable coping. Flanking the porch are pointed-arched windows with hoodmoulds, and there are three stepped similar windows above, all fitted with 20th-century frosted glass.
The right side of the building is blank, while the left side has no openings except for one small inserted window. The rear elevation features two tall central pointed-arched windows, which are flanked by upper and lower similar windows, all adorned with coloured glass that may be original. Additionally, there is a pointed-arched lowered vent high in the gable.
