Description
Ben Marie is a house, possibly dating from the early 18th century, that was refurbished in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed roughly-tooled sandstone, featuring some herringbone tooling, and has part of its exterior rendered. The roof is pantiled with stone copings. The building has two storeys and two fairly wide bays, with some changes to the openings.
The right side has a four-panel door located under a gabled wooden hood supported by brackets. The central window on the ground floor has 20 panes and a bottom sliding section, with pintles for external shutters. To the left, there is a small modern fixed light. The first-floor window on the right is similar to the central ground floor window but has only 15 panes, while the left window is a 9-pane sash. There is a chimney at the right end of the building.
The right return is mostly blank, featuring only a modern attic casement and one sash window on each floor; the ground floor window has 9 panes, and the first-floor window, dating from the 19th century, has frosted glass. The rear elevation is one storey high due to the slope of the hill and includes a boarded door and a small pent outhouse on the right, which has another boarded door.
