Description

Chiltern and Stormville is a house with an early 19th-century appearance, possibly originating from an early 18th-century core, now divided into two dwellings. The building is constructed from roughly-tooled coursed sandstone, with Chiltern covered in incised rendering. It features pantiled roofs with stone coping and kneelers, along with brick and rendered stacks. The structure has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with each dwelling having one wide bay.

There are four shared steps leading up to paired four-panel doors at the center. Chiltern, on the right, includes a three-light stone-mullioned basement window and a late 19th-century ground-floor canted oriel window with a cornice and lead roof. The first floor has a later 19th-century sash window with side margins and a projecting cill. Stormville features a heavy old door lintel with the name on an inserted stone plaque above. To the left of the door, there is a small pent extension with a boarded door on its left return and a renewed horizontal sash window to the left. Small casement windows are present on the ground and first floors, and the eaves are coved.

Both houses have dormers from around 1900 with paired sashes and deep bracketed soffits. The right end has a brick chimney, while the left end features coping on kneelers and a rendered chimney. The left return shows a boarded basement door, modern ground-floor windows, and an early 19th-century attic sash. The entrance to Rothwell Cottage is located in the rear wall of Chiltern.
