Description
Plane Tree Cottage is a cottage from the mid to late 18th century, constructed of roughly herringbone-tooled coursed sandstone with incised render on the gable end. It features a pantiled roof with a stone ridge and copings, along with a stone-coped brick stack. The gable end facing the road has two storeys and one window on the main front, which is the right return from the road. There is a four-panel door located in a modern glazed porch with a felt roof.
The right side has a tripartite sash window with a central opening section, positioned under an extended lintel that features a tall keystone. On the first floor, there is a 24-pane window with a smaller bottom centre opening section, which has been heightened, resulting in the cutting off of the lintel and the bottom of the keystone. It appears that the whole roof may have been raised, as the top courses look slightly different.
Additionally, there is a raking roof dormer with boarded cheeks and a small modern casement on the roof. The right end has a stack, and on the left side of the gable end, there are two small modern windows. The porch is noted as not being of special interest.
