Description

A mid-18th century terrace of houses, likely originally a farmhouse with associated cottages, located in the village of Carlton. The buildings are constructed of red brick in an English garden wall bond pattern of four bricks and one header, set upon a low stone plinth. They have pantiled roofs with stone hips and a ridge. The terrace comprises three bays for Beech House, and a single wide bay for each of the others, with single-story lean-tos at each end. The overall design is symmetrical. The central entrance to Beech House has a half-glazed door within a flat stone surround. The outer entrances are within the lean-tos; the left-hand door is half-glazed, and the right-hand door is boarded. The windows are Yorkshire sash windows, three-light except for a two-light window above the central door, with the ground floor windows set beneath wide segmental relieving arches. A stepped brick eaves cornice runs along the top, followed by sprocketed eaves and ridge chimneys positioned over the party walls, with the right-hand chimney rendered.
