Description

The Cottage is a house dating from circa 1700, with alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of roughly tooled sandstone, with a pantile roof featuring a stone ridge, copings, kneelers, and chimney stacks. The two-storey, three-window south-east front has a central boarded door with a small glazed panel, set beneath a heavy lintel. To the left of the door is a chamfered window without mullions, now fitted with a Yorkshire sash under a herring-bone tooled lintel. To the right of the door is a 16-pane sash window, also under a similar herring-bone tooled lintel. The upper windows rest upon the lintels of the door and the right-hand window, with the exception of a small window in the eaves to the left; these are Yorkshire sashes. A small lean-to with a boarded door is located to the left. The eaves sweep upwards, and there are block kneelers. The chimney stacks have cornice bands. This building has group value from its contribution to the character of the area.
