Description
Hob on the Hill is a wayside cross and boundary stone located approximately 1775 meters south of Tidkinhow Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. The stone is made of roughly dressed limestone and stands about 1 meter high, with dimensions of 32 cm by 23 cm. The east face features an inscription, while the south-west face is inscribed with "Hob on the Hill 1798 S.K." The north face has a "G" at the top and a bench mark at the base. This stone is situated on a cairn that is scheduled as Ancient Monument No. 37a, at the junction of the boundaries of Guisborough, Lockwood, and Commondale Civil Parishes, and it marks the boundary between Cleveland and North Yorkshire counties.
