Description
Aysdalegate Farmhouse is a farmhouse and farm cottage that has been combined into one house, dated 1729 on the lintel of the cottage doorway. It is believed to incorporate stones from Gisborough Priory. The building is constructed of dressed sandstone and features a late 20th-century concrete tiled roof, with clay pantiles on the farm cottage. It has stone gable copings, moulded kneelers, and end stacks. The structure is two storeys high and has four bays on the garden front, which faces south. The entrance is from the farm cottage side.
The farmhouse has a continuous chamfered plinth, and the windows on the ground floor have been altered; they now feature renewed sashes with glazing bars, stone sills, and flat surrounds on the first floor. There is a moulded eaves cornice. The adjoining two-storey farm cottage on the left has a hearth-passage and one window. It has a half-glazed door to the left, set in a moulded surround with a lintel inscribed: "R RE 1729". The ground floor has a renewed fixed-light window in a chamfered surround, while the first floor features a horizontal sash with glazing bars. The left end stack, chamfered plinth, and moulded eaves cornice are also present. A garret light is located in the right return. Most windows in the rear elevation have been altered, except for a chamfered fire window at the east end. The interiors of both the farmhouse and cottage retain beamed ceilings and moulded fire beams on the ground floor.
