Description
The railway viaduct, built between 1858 and 1862 for the Cleveland Railway, is constructed of rock-faced sandstone with dressed sandstone on the undersides of the arches, along with iron ties and railings. The structure carries a disused railway over Spa Gill and features eight semi-circular arches, each reaching a maximum height of 18.3 meters (60 feet), supported by pairs of tapered piers. A low stone parapet runs along the top, which includes remnants of plain cast iron railings and rectangular and lozenge-shaped iron tie-ends.
