Description

This is a terrace of ten houses, numbered 2-11, built in the early to mid-19th century at Robin Hood’s Bay. The houses are constructed of pinkish brick in an English garden wall bond pattern, with stone dressings. Nos. 5-8 have rendered elevations. The roofs are slate, incorporating tiles of blue and purple hues in varying sizes. Brick chimneys are present, some of which are rendered.

The terrace is arranged over three storeys, with a single wide bay per house. Each house has a door on the left-hand side, featuring a low overlight, most of which are now blocked. Some original six-panel doors remain, although replacements have been introduced. The windows are predominantly sash windows, with 16 panes on the ground and first floors, and 9 panes on the second floors. They are topped with wedge lintels and feature projecting cills. Original windows remain complete at Nos. 3, 4 and 9, while others have been replaced with later 19th-century sashes or modern casements, although all are set within the original window openings, apart from the late 19th-century canted bay added to the ground floor of No. 7. No. 8 also has a small, added porch with a segmental lead roof.

The rear elevation displays catslides with dormers or rooflights on several houses. Other rear extensions are varied, including gabled shapes and two-storey additions with pitched roofs.
