Description
This is a pair of houses from the mid-18th century located on King Street in Robin Hood's Bay. They are built of painted brick with stone quoins that alternate in block pattern, along with a plinth and an eaves cornice. The roof is pantiled and features brick stacks. The buildings are two stories tall and consist of four bays.
The central entrance has six-panel doors with blocked overlights, framed by an early 19th-century double surround that includes pilasters and a modillion cornice supported by brackets. Behind this, original keyed gauged-brick arches can still be seen. On the right side, there is a 20th-century four-light casement window that has replaced an earlier, larger shop window.
On the left side and on the first floor, there are 12-pane sash windows set in wooden architraves, all under flat gauged-brick arches with keystones. The window in the second bay is blocked. The second-floor windows are shorter and also sit under similar arches; the outer ones are Yorkshire sashes, while the inner ones are blocked. There are traces of an original arch visible at the ground floor on the right side.
