Description
Congrave Farmhouse and the adjoining cottage date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from finely-coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone, with a roof that has been modernized using pantiles and features stone dressings. The building is two storeys high with two wide bays. There is a slightly off-centre six-panel door that has a glazed top. To the left, there are three-light Yorkshire sash windows set under wide lintels with keystones. To the right, there are early 19th-century sash windows beneath narrower keyed lintels. The roof has swept eaves and includes corniced stacks located at the right and centre of the ridge. The left side features a two-storey, one-bay cottage that was once part of the same property. Although all openings have been altered, the cottage is included because it is integral to No. 40. The left end has a corniced stack and square kneelers at both ends.
