Description
Popes Cottage is a cottage dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick and has a thatched roof. The building is 1½ storeys high and features two bays, with outshot hip bays at each end and a wing to the rear on one side of the center. The front of the cottage has a central plank door, which is sheltered by a tiled, gabled hood supported by posts. On either side of the door, there are three-light casement windows with segmental heads, and two-light similar windows in the end bays. Above the central area, there are two-light eyebrow dormers on either side. The roof is hipped and sweeps down at both ends, and there is a central ridge stack.
