Description
This is a storage barn located immediately southwest of Birchenwood Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. The barn is timber-framed and has been reclad in corrugated iron, with a gable-ended roof also covered in corrugated iron. It has a rectangular shape and is supported on 18 staddle-stones. There are opposing double doors on the southeast and northwest sides, along with loading doors in the northeast and southwest end gables. A later lean-to outshut is present on the northwest side, which covers earlier weatherboarding.
Inside, the wall framing features long studs, straight tension-braces, and jowled wall-posts. There are straight braces supporting cambered tie-beams, and the structure includes tie-beam and collar trusses with struts. The roof is constructed with staggered tenoned purlins, common rafters, and a ridgeboard.
