Description
The canal with a flight of steps and fountain, located south of Rhinefield House Hotel, was constructed between 1888 and 1890 by WH Romaine-Walker and Tanner. It features a stone canal coping and steps, along with a marble fountain. The canal measures 100 meters in length, with a bowed shape at each end and additional bows on either side in the center where the fountain is situated. At the house end, there is a flight of five outward spreading steps that leads from the terrace in front of the house down to the canal. The fountain consists of a square plinth supporting a lower bowl, which has four console brackets that hold up a carved stem leading to an upper bowl, topped with a pedestal and another bowl.
