Description
The bridge on the drive west of the house site at Paulton's Park was built in 1828 and crosses the Cadnam River, situated above the northern arm of a U-shaped lake. It features three equal spans made of cast iron beams with cambered soffits. The outer faces of the beams have a series of enlarging holes arranged within triangular panels. Above each span, there is a cast-iron open-work parapet with diaper rails, divided into three sections by vertical panels containing open circles. The bridge's supports are finished in stucco over brickwork, with a decorative band at road level and stone caps that have reeded and rounded bands beneath channelled bands. Beyond the bridge, the solid supports extend as flanking walls that curve outward, ending in large circular piers. A small central panel displays raised letters "WSS" above the date "1828."
