Description
The bridge over the River Loddon, located in Stratfield Saye Park, was built in 1802 and designed by Thomas Wilson. It features a cast-iron structure composed of four frames that are tied together with bars. Each frame consists of five castings, creating a cambered arch where the upper segment at road level is flatter than the lower segment. The lower part of the arch includes framed sections with minor vertical elements, and the spandrel is decorated with circles that diminish towards the center. The abutments curve outward and have a stucco finish on the brickwork. At the top of the abutments is a panelled band, and they terminate at square piers that have a plain base, a panelled middle section, and a cornice topped with a vase. The bridge is enclosed by cast-iron rails forming a parapet, which ends at the piers, with regular sections marked by slender balusters and a top rail.
