Description
The Old Rectory, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century, is possibly designed by John Pitt. It features a symmetrical front on the north-east side with two storeys and a window arrangement of 1.1.1, along with a taller wing on the north-west side that has two windows. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a fully-moulded cornice that forms a pediment above the slightly-projected central section. The building is constructed of colour-washed brick in Flemish bond with rubbed flat arches.
The central section includes a lunette on the first floor with blank side panels. Below this, there is a full-width Tuscan Order consisting of four attached half-columns that enclose narrow side windows beneath projecting panels, along with a central arched doorway featuring a keystone and moulded imposts. The upper windows of the older part are casements, while the lower part has early sash windows. The wing features sash windows set in reveals with low cills on the ground floor. The entrance has a six-panelled door beneath a radiating fanlight.
The symmetrical south-east elevation has three windows and includes a central angular ground-floor bay from the late 19th century, also with sash windows. A notable feature of this facade is a first-floor wrought-iron balcony that spans the full width.
