Description
A cottage, dating from the early 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed with wattle and daub and brick infill, painted, and has a thatched roof. The cottage is one-and-a-half stories high, originally three bays plus a smoke bay, with 20th-century additions at one end and to the rear. The front elevation has a planked door to the left of centre, containing an inserted window. There are restored three-light casements to each side, and a similar two-light window in the right-hand bay. To the left, an old ledged door leads to a single-story link to a 20th-century bay, which also has casements. On the first floor of the cottage, a 18th-century four-light eyebrow dormer is visible to the left, with remnants of a bracket for a former oriel window beneath. Above the right-hand centre bay is a four-light 17th-century eyebrow dormer with mullioned windows, and a similar three-light dormer over the right-hand bay. All windows feature diamond-leaded lights. The roof is half-hipped, with a large ridge stack above the front door. Inside, most of the timber frame is exposed. A large 18th-century fireplace is in the right-hand centre bay, with partitions running down the middle of the right-hand bay and between it and the other bay. Visible within the plaster infill of one of these partitions is the date 1623.
