Description

Snittlegarth and adjoining stables is a farmhouse and stables built in the early 18th century, with alterations and extensions dated 1801 above the entrance. The structure features limestone rubble walls, eaves modillions, and flush quoins on a chamfered plinth, topped with a graduated greenslate roof that has large 19th-century stone chimney stacks, stone-coped gables, and kneelers. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a two-bay extension on the right under a common double-span roof. The stables to the left form an overall L-shape with the house.

A six-panel door is set within a prostyle porch that has Ionic columns, triglyphs, and a dentilled cornice. The windows are sash style, set in enlarged 19th-century stone surrounds. The stable connects to the house via a low extension featuring a segmental archway beneath a 20th-century casement window. The stable itself has a blocked central doorway and a mix of 19th and 20th-century windows.

At the rear of the house, there are 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars and a Venetian staircase window with intersecting glazing bars in the head, all in painted stone surrounds. The rear of the stables includes plank doors, sash windows, and loft openings in red sandstone surrounds. There is a partly-blocked large segmental carriage archway to the right with an alternate-block surround. Additionally, a mounting block against this wall features a scrolled vine design.
