Description
The aisle columns west of Ireby Old Church are from the 13th century and are made of sandstone. They feature octagonal columns and capitals. After the church was partially demolished in 1845-1846, these columns were repurposed as gate posts for The Limes in Ireby village. Excavations conducted in 1933-1934 uncovered the original bases for the columns, and following the restoration of the remaining chancel in 1972, the columns were returned to their original position.
