Description
A house and stable, now divided into two cottages, dated 1684 and with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The building has roughcast walls and a graduated greenslate roof with roughcast chimney stacks. Originally a 2-story, 3- or 4-bay house, it was divided into two, with the two right bays forming Eardon Cottage and the rest becoming Standingstone Cottage. A lower, single-bay extension links to a former stable on the left, which appears to have once been part of the barn range of the adjacent Croft House Farmhouse. The original doorway has a 20th-century door in a painted stone surround with removed moldings and a panelled frieze under a cornice. Sash windows, some with glazing bars, are set in 19th-century painted stone surrounds; those on the upper floor of Eardon Cottage are in 17th-century surrounds. The former stable has a 20th-century door in a 20th-century porch and a casement window. A 20th-century garage door is in the extreme left side wall. The interior of Eardon Cottage features a beamed ground floor ceiling and a partition wall with a firebeam. A rear 17th-century window is now an internal recess.
