Description

Ellenside House is an early 19th-century house. It is constructed of incised stucco with V-jointed quoins on a chamfered plinth, and has a hipped roof covered with graduated greenslate, with projecting eaves supported by brackets; the chimney stacks are painted ashlar. The house is two storeys high and originally three bays wide, with a lower extension to the rear forming an L-shape. The front features a five-panel door with a fanlight and flanking side lights, all with glazing bars. Below, there are French windows with glazing bars, sheltered by a full-length verandah supported on patterned cast-iron. All other windows are sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds. An end wall to the right also features similar French windows. The rear extension is built of mixed sandstone rubble and has plank doors and sash windows, some with glazing bars, all set in painted stone surrounds. A stone mounting block is located against the rear wall.
