Description

This milestone, located opposite the Blue Bell Inn in Embleton, dates from the early 19th century and was created for the Cockermouth-Keswick Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed slate and features a shaped top. The front has a cast iron plate inscribed with "COCKERMOUTH 3 MILES" and "KESWICK 10 MILES," with the lettering highlighted in black.
