Description
The building is a wagon shed with a hay loft located to the south-east of Shap Abbey farmhouse. It was likely built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure is made from re-used Abbey stone, featuring coursed, squared rubble and blocks, along with quoins. It has a graduated slate roof with a stone ridge and consists of two storeys with five bays.
On the left side, there are two segment-headed wagon openings, one of which is now blocked. To the right, there are plank double doors and a small two-light window. Central steps lead up to a loft door, which has a casement window on the left and a second door with a small two-light window on the right. There are single-storey buildings adjoining the east and west returns, but these are not of interest.
