Description

This pair of limekilns dates from the early 19th century and is constructed from flat bedded local slate. They are set into a hillside and feature a buttressed wall between them, which has putlog holes for a now-vanished structure, measuring approximately 17 meters in length. Each limekiln has curved abutments, although the parapets were obscured by ivy during the survey in June 1984. The kilns include three relieving circles of decreasing size, with one stoke hole on the right kiln and two stoke holes on the left kiln. There is also a recess in the right abutment and a remaining joint of a lean-to roof. The central wall between the kilns has a raking buttress and two pairs of putlog holes on either side, but the purpose of the structure they supported is unclear.
