One of a Pair of Limekilns on Western Side of Slipway

This pair of limekilns, likely built in the early 19th century, is located on the western side of a slipway. They were restored around 1975. Each kiln stands approximately 3 meters high and is constructed from rubble stone, with a circular shape that extends from the bank. There is a stone-faced ramp leading up from the south and steps in the wall to the north of the northern kiln, as well as a rubble wall between the two kilns. The kilns feature high kiln-eyes of the Dewisland type, which have tapering heads that reach up to stone lintels. Each kiln has circular crucibles with low restored parapets and paved walkways surrounding them. Between the kilns, the foundations of a lime-burner's hut can still be seen.
