Description
The limekilns, likely built in the early 19th century, are constructed from stone rubble with brick dressings. They consist of a set of three limekilns situated against a steep southeast-facing slope. On the right, an oblong block projects forward and contains two kilns that are raked out from the sides. On the left, another kiln is built into the hillslope and is raked out from the front. Each kiln features tall arches with brick segmental heads, which step down and inwards in a series of three similar arches leading to a blocked raking out hole that connects to a circular brick-lined vat. The kilns could be loaded from the top of the slope. This site is part of a group of limekilns near the Westleigh Quarry, which continues to produce limestone.
