Description
The limekilns at Burlescombe Westleigh, likely built in the early 19th century, are constructed from stone rubble with brick kiln vats. They consist of a set of three limekilns situated across a steep slope facing southeast. On the left, there is an oblong block containing two kilns, both designed to be raked out from the front. To the right, another kiln is set at a different angle. Each kiln features segmental-headed outer arches that step down and inwards, along with two similar arches for the raking out holes leading to the brick-lined vat. The kilns were designed to be loaded from the top of the hillslope. This site is part of a group of limekilns near the Westleigh Quarry, which continues to produce limestone.
