Description
The range of farm buildings to the north of Linhay at East Luccombe Farm is a Grade II listed structure, likely dating from the 13th century and altered in the mid-19th century. This U-shaped arrangement surrounds a foldyard and includes a barn, a loft over stables, and shelter sheds.
The threshing barn is constructed of red sandstone random rubble with a thatched hip roof on the left side, which abuts the stable at a right angle. It features double doors beneath a wooden lintel and is buttressed on the foldyard side. The loft over the stable is also made of red sandstone random rubble and has a half-hipped thatched roof, forming a T-plan with the barn. It includes a door with a corrugated iron pentice hood porch facing the foldyard, a loft opening in the gable end away from the foldyard, and a door set to the right below.
The shelter sheds are similarly built of red sandstone random rubble and have a double Roman tiled roof that sweeps down. They are arranged in an L-plan adjoining the stable block on the left, consisting of 1:3 bays with some brick infill and alterations in the bay next to the stable, featuring circular piers. There is also a triple Roman tiled lean-to addition at the gable end, set in the angle of the barn and the loft over the stable at the rear. The interiors have not been seen. This range forms a cohesive group with the linhay to the south.
