Description
Jury Lodge and the adjoining gate pier are part of a pair of lodges for Pixton Park, now serving as a dwelling. They date from the mid to late 18th century. The building features roughcast over rubble with a slate-hung main elevation on the east side, a slate roof, and overhanging eaves. It has 20th-century brick stacks positioned away from the gable ends. The lodge is likely designed as a two-cell structure, oriented east-west, with the gate pier located at the northeast corner. No 2 Jury Lodge is situated to the north-south, and the gate piers that were formerly in the southeast corner have been demolished.
The east front of the lodge is one and a half storeys high with a single bay. It includes a lunette window with a 2-light casement above a semi-circular headed recess that contains a 12-pane sash window. The right return, which faces the former drive, has two semi-circular headed recesses, a 12-pane sash window to the right, and a flush panelled door with panelled reveals to the right. The south front features one 12-pane sash window set below the eaves above a 20th-century door, with additional 12-pane sash windows in the outer bays and a 20th-century window to the right of the entrance.
The gate pier is made of unidentified ashlar stone and has an urn set on a low pitch, with a plain cornice, a recessed panel on the pier, and a plinth. It is positioned about 500 mm from the lodge. The lodge and gate pier form a cohesive group with No 2 Jury Lodge and share a similar style with Higher Combe in Dulverton.
